Yankee Quill award nominations due June 22

Nominations for the annual Yankee Quill awards are due June 22. The awards, given by the New England Society of Newspaper Editors, honor those “who have had a broad influence for good in the field of journalism” with “a lifetime contribution to the profession,” according to the society.

Recipients will be honored at a society dinner in the fall, and all winners will be inducted into the Academy of New England Journalists.

The Yankee Quill award recognizes newspaper, radio and television journalism, with the focus on whether the nominee has affected the entire field of journalism rather than making an impact on a specific coverage area or producing an individual achievement.

The Academy of New England Journalists’ board of trustees and some New England news association presidents will choose this year’s recipients.

Nominations should be made on the society’s form and sent to the society’s office at 70 Washington St., Salem, Mass. 01970. Forms can be obtained by contacting the New England Newspaper Association’s George Geers at gnews@empire.net or (603) 226-1020, or the Eagle-Tribune’s Bill Ketter at BKetter@eagletribune.com, or (978) 685-1000.

The items above were written, at least in part, from published reports by Jen Slothower, a graduate student at the Northeastern University School of Journalism and a news staff coordinator for the Bulletin.
