Forecasts call for continued newspaper ad spending declines

Newspaper advertising spending is predicted to decline by 17 percent in 2009 from 2008, 4.5 percent in 2010 from 2009, and 0.5 percent in 2011 from 2010, according to a ZenithOptimedia forecast and an Oct. 19 MediaPost story.

According to the Newspaper Association of America, newspaper ad revenues declined 28.3 percent in the first quarter and 29 percent in the second quarter.

PricewaterhouseCoopers, a worldwide provider of industry-focused assurance, tax and advisory services, predicts that newspaper revenues will decline 10.2 percent in 2009 and 2 percent each year from 2010 to 2013.
