Convention countdown
Downsizing paper’s size should
come with upgrade of its design

Think the unthinkable. Make your newspaper's type flush left.

That's Ed Henninger's advice to editors and publishers who are looking to reduce the size of their newspaper's page. Readers likely won't notice. In fact, most editors and publishers won't either.

Henninger, a newspaper design consultant who has owned Henninger Consulting of Rock Hill, S.C., since 1989, said he suggested such a change to a publisher looking to reduce the size of his newspaper page. The publisher's reaction? No way.

“What I hear from my clients when I suggest this is: 'But (justified type) is the way we've always done it’,” Henninger said. MORE >
